Your Thanksgiving Programming for 2024
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! 2024 is almost over.
Hello everybody and welcome to another Musty newsletter we are very excited for Thanksgiving and may you have a wonderful holiday with your loved ones. This holiday season is usually filled with lots of food but we all know we get bored, tired, and sleepy. So we wanted to give you a quick list of things you can enjoy at the movie theaters or at home on your streaming services.
Epic Blockbusters
Gladiator 2
I will be watching Gladiator 2 this weekend and will have thoughts in the next newsletter because hey it's Ancient Rome and we all think about it, right? But in all seriousness it's really great to see more epics like this on the big screen. Let's keep pumping them out.
Musical Magic
Wicked: Part One
Wicked is finally here! And can confirm that it is worth watching and is a must-theatre watch. Let us know if you want a full spoiler review podcast episode.
Family Adventure
Moana 2
Moana 2 is out this weekend and I am certain many families are going to go watch this island adventure. Will Moana overtake Inside Out 2 in the box office as the biggest box office winner this year in the animation department or will Anxiety be too much for Moana and Maui?
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever
A cozy film about the true meaning of Christmas. As always in America we tend to skip over Thanksgiving but I had to be reminded that internationally, not a lot of people celebrate Thanksgiving since it is really just an United States holiday. Oh well.
Red One
I'll be honest, I'm not expecting much from this film except to see the Rock fight on behalf of Santa. That's pretty much it for me and if it does that well then I'll be happy.
Movies in the Theaters That Will Be Gone Soon
Conclave
Watched this last weekend and I fell asleep but only because I'm really tired writing these newsletters. I do believe this movie could be a best picture film and it taught me a lot, about the goings on politically of the Catholic Church. You will be shocked by the ending, trust me.
The Wild Robot
I absolutely love this film and cannot tell you enough that if you have a chance to watch any movie this weekend, watch The Wild Robot. You can watch it in the theaters still but you can also rent it digitally.
Venom: The Last Dance
The third film in the franchise with an actual good Venom and we may now see a future collaboration between Tom Hardy's Venom and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, called the Tom Toms (jk).
A Real Pain
Family drama for a family drama-filled season.
Anora
An awards contender that not too many people have heard about.
New Streaming Shows and Movies to Watch
Arcane: Season 2 (Netflix) (Show)
You're probably already annoyed with how much we've talked about Arcane here in this newsletter but I'm not gonna stop talking about it because it's some of the best storytelling I've seen in my entire life and I've lived a pretty long time. I'm in my 30s. So definitely watch this show and let's talk about it because it's saying a whole lot.
Cobra Kai: Season 6 Part 2 (Netflix) (Show)
Silence! If you need more nostalgia and karate action look no further than this wonderful series on Netflix that is starting it's closing run. There's also a part three to look forward to apparently in 2025 and also a movie that's gonna bring in Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith.
Dune Prophecy: Season 1 (Max) (Show)
We need more prophecy and this show looks like it's going to deliver that in strides. After watching the first episode I'm definitely convinced that the Bene Gesserit are really the main characters of this entire franchise.
St. Denis Medical: Season 1 (Peacock) (Show)
NBC keeps trying to make another big hit like The Office or Parks and Rec in the funny documentary space. This medical show is not dramatic at all but it has some interesting characters. I've watched the first three episodes and I've laughed a little bit but I've also gained a lot more respect for our medical professionals. Definitely tune in if you're just looking for a chill and light time.
Hit Man (Netflix) (Movie)
An action movie with a trending star in Glen Powell that came out earlier this year but would still be a fun watch during the holiday season. I have not seen this movie yet but I think it is better than Twisters.
Soon to be released
It Ends With Us (Netflix) (Movie) (December 9)
The controversial film that came out earlier this year starring Blake Lively, the wife of Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool). I didn't get a chance to watch this in theaters so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing it on Netflix.
Mary (Netflix) (Movie) (December 6)
Another take on the virgin Mary story which seems to include a lot more dramatic action. I'm not sure if this is gonna be a good movie or not but I am intrigued based on the small clips I've seen online.
An Oldie but a Goodie
Squanto: A Warrior's Tale (Disney+) (Movie)
A 90s movie that is fictional but based on “real” events. This film tells the story of Squanto, who helped the Pilgrims establish peaceful relations with the local Native Americans after the Mayflower landed in 1620. Kind of makes you think of those school days where you dressed up as pilgrims and Native Americans.
Poll Results
Based on this past weekend’s results Wicked is firmly in the lead over Gladiator 2. According to Box Office Mojo, Wicked brought in over 110 million dollars and Gladiator 2 brought in 55 million dollars. So you reader were correct in choosing Wicked over Gladiator 2.
Do you stay home or go out during Thanksgiving? |
Final Words
In our next newsletter we will discuss the results of the holiday box office, NaNoWriMo, and a few mini-reviews. Be safe out there.
