Spider-Man Is an Adult

While methodically re-watching Spider-Man: No Way Home, I realized that the film’s inciting incident happens because Tom Holland’s Peter Parker wants to get his best friend and girlfriend into MIT. No Way Home was their third movie together, and Peter, MJ, and Ned were just graduating from high school. So in watching the latest trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fact that the movie is set with MJ and Ned about to graduate from MIT is wild. So, I wonder if the film will also be hitting on the major struggles of Gen Z as they graduate from college and enter into the job market.

Excited for Destin Daniel Cretton

Director, Destin Daniel Cretton (often referred to by his first name) is finally getting to release his second feature film for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as of 2026. Dare I say, it’s about time. Ever since watching Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings all the way back in 2021 I have been a fan of Destin’s big and epic scenes and his ability to film great fantastical fights. I am not confident in Brand New Day’s screenplay, but I am confident in Destin Cretton’s ability to entertain on the big screen. Hopefully this means that Shang-Chi 2 is on it’s way.

Final Words

Brand New Day has a lot of pressure on it’s plate. This film has to prove that superhero fatigue has come and gone and that the MCU can still be a billion dollar franchise after the box office let downs of 2025. I do think moviegoers are always excited to watch Spidey swing and make playful banter with his foes. We’ll get to see what Peter Parker living alone as a full-time Spider-Man looks like in the MCU and I wonder who the mysterious villain will be. Until then, stay musty and keep creating y’all.
